Is this legal?

I know a little about computers and I have about ten customers that I ocasionally attend to. I'm currently unemployed so I was thinking about jumping into the computer repair business just to give it a try. Using Microsoft Office Word, I made a flyer describing my services and I was wondering if it would be legal to make copies of it and put it in people's mailboxes around here (I'm in the US). What do you guys have to say about that? Thanks.

You can't use a mailbox in the US for anything but mail. So you'd have to go door to door, not mailbox to mailbox.

How about this: I keep getting flyers from chinese restaurants, pizzerias and what not almost everyday in my mailbox :rolleyes:

Roll them up and stick them in the door, the railing, or someother place where they will have to move it.

People put stuff in my mailbox all the time but it is illegal. You might just be one of the very few people that would get into trouble over it.

Also, see any local businesses and see if they will let you post on the bulletin board. Allot of people even cut fingers in the flyer with contact info on them. Then you just tear off one of the fingers and you have the info.

Most supermarkets have a bulletin board. Just a few ideas. Good Luck. :)

Its probably one of those laws that is never policed like that one in New Jersy (http://www.ahajokes.com/laws030.html) that states that it is against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season, or that its illegal to slurp your soup.

I'd just do it and plead temporary JM if you get arrested.

Just stick an M-80 in one and get caught. Then you'd be in trouble with the feds.

I hardly think they have mailbox cops waiting for you to stick a flyer in one. It is against the law but so is spitting on the sidewalk.

It is one of those laws that is rarely enforced but if you did get slapped with a charge it would be a federal charge and not a local one. You'd be more likely to get arrested for trespassing or soliciting.

Print it on peel and stick labels. That way you can stick them everywhere. Make smaller one you can stick on the front of every computer in town too.

Sinc eyou can't legally walk around and put fliers in a mailbox, you can go to the postmaster and buy a mailing list for a specfic zip code or zip codes. You can them print you own mailing labels and send them that way.

My church did it all the time. Now I am at a different place. The new place doesn't do it.

We did it at work when we moved to let people know we were in the neighborhood.
