I finally finished building my first computer but for some reason when I shut down the video card fans and hard drive fans won't stop running. Is there a switch or something on the motherboard that will stop this? I read the manual and it don't say anything about one. There's a switch on the back of the power supply that I have to turn off to make the power completely shut off for them to stop running but then everytime I turn the pc back on I have to move that switch back.

I'm have a Epox MVP3G-M motherboard.

Second problem is, when I boot up the power light don't come on. I checked and it's plugged in to the motherboard so I can't figure out what the deal is. It boots up and all, that light just don't come on.

don't know about the 1st question, but for the 2nd one:
maybe you have the cable plugged in backawards? try flipping it 180 degrees?

Is there a seprate switch for the power supply? Maybe your front switch turns off the power to the motherboard, put your power supply remains active, thus keeping the fans on... I dunno just a guess.

That toggle switch on the back of the PS is what I like to call the kill switch - when all else fails. It needs to be switched back on to get any power to the system.

Double check all the connectors from the PS to the LED,Power Switch, Reset, etc. that you have made.

Thanks it was just turned backwards. For some reason that was the odd one in the group. Also that fan problem has been solved. I didn't know it but I have to shut down through start, and shut down and then the system completely shuts down. You can't manually hit the power button and shut it off unless you flip the switch on the back of the power supply.

My computer has the switch on the back as well. The power switch on the front acts as a dual suspend/off switch. If I hit the power switch on the front it will go into suspend mode, however if I hold it down for 4 seconds or more it will turn the power off. Thought you might want to try.

Jeff,
That is an ATX Power supply. You'll notice that on older machines (486 and some pentiums and also some K6) that the power goes directly from the power supply to the switch on the case. That was an AT power supply. Now with ATX, the power goes from teh PS to the mobo, then another wire from the case to the mobo. To turn it off you SHOULD shut the PC down through windows...never just kill the power unless you are locked up. However, one thing many people don't know about it hte 4-second power button trick. On most ATX cases, if you push and hold the power button for 4 or 5 seconds it will shut the computer down. I found that out through my Compaq Rep. Never knew it before and I had been using a ATX case since I ha a P-120 many years ago. /forum/smile.gif
