We're using two networked PCs behind a Lynksys router. The OS is Windows XP SP2 for both systems. We've sucessfully established fie sharing access between both PCs however the one PC seems to have problems viewing "some" folders/files of the other. Its as if the items are hidden. We've tried giving permission to the exact user on a file and folder basis but still the items dont show up in the window. We are able to type in the address bar the exact path and now we can access the folder but just thru simple navigation it is invisible.
Odd. Any solutions? NETBIOS is enabled over TCP/IP for both systems and there is no firewall active, besides the router we are connected to.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.
In the meantime I've been able to resolve my original issue by simply removing security patch KB887742 from XP. Another errore message I'm frequently receiving is:
Error Copying File or Folder
Cannot copy <filename without extension>: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.
All I'm doing is copying a folder with x number of files within it from the remote PC on the lan to my system. We've never experienced this kind of problem before despite setting up our network several times. Permissions look fine. Once i go into the folder and then copying all files, it works fine. There seems to be an issue with folders themselved. Also, I've been able to copy folder with files very infrequently without getting the error message.
Because the above deinstallation worked so well i went ahead and tried removing ALL security patches obtained from MS today but this didnt resolve the problem.
Any solutions would be appreciated.

Do a thorough scan of all PCs on the LAN for viruses and spyware:

9 times out of 10 these problems Im experiencing on my friend's PC have nothing to do with spyware/virus. But I'll give it a go and maybe this time I'll even win the lottery... :t
