I have just reinstalled XP Home on an ECS K7VTA3 (Ver 8.0) motherboard and neither the LAN nor USB show in Device Manager. When I try to install the drivers for either of these from the ECS CD, the USB drivers seem to start to install but after that first little box goes to 100%, it disappears and does nothing further. The USB still does not show up in Device Manager and when I do a "Scan for Hardware Changes" there are no changes made. The LAN driver starts to install but then says the drivers I'm trying to install are for the wrong NIC. I've installed all of this before and never run into these kinds of problems. When I go to ESC's website and download those drivers, everything does the same thing.

Thanks for any tips and help on this.

Gary

Double check that both are enabled in the bios .

you also need to remember that ECS is a very very cheaply made board and ppl are always having problems with them. But checking the bios making sure they are inabled is the first step. If they show up in device manager after that, then just do a driver update in device manager and your all set.

That was it. Thank you!

Ignore the bullsh*t flingers ...

Drivers for the VIA chipset's integrated LAN are at www.viaarena.com - and the USB controllers don't need any extra drivers above those brought by Windows.

Also make sure you didn't get any of the springy flaps on the I/O shield INTO the LAN or USB connectors. That's a mistake often made.

Thank you too Peter. Yes, I've had that springy flap get into the ethernet port before.

Everything's working just fine now.

... after you've enabled the ports in BIOS, as you confessed elsewhere ;)
