Was at my friends house today, trying to RDP into my server with no luck. I thought maybe my server had froze, so I called home and had my sister check it. Sure enough it was up and running and connected to the net. I had her check the IP and for the first time in years, it had changed. Another person I know said his had reciently changed as well. Anyone else have the same thing happen to them?

Is it supposed to be a static IP?

Why not call your ISP and ask them what's up. Maybe your three year DHCP lease was up ;)

No, its dynamic, but three years is about right... The only time my IP has ever changed was when I got a different cable modem. This modem i've had for right around three years actually, with the same IP address. I'm just curious if it'll be changing frequently, or if this was just something that happened for whatever reason.

Could happen if the modem lost power or got unpluged.

I dunno about you guys

but when i was living in the States, Comcast changed every 6 months or so, then it was like every 3 months?

Here in Canada ISP sets it to change every 3 months as well

Recently, Comcast has changed their Interent speeds and in most areas they have changed their program(s) that register the modems. In doing so I have noticed that DHCP addresses have also changed.

While I haven't heard anything thru work, I am assuming they changed the IP address pool.
