Kind of a long story, but I'll make it short. We used to have a switch between 2 computers to network them, and had ICS going but we just recently got a wireless router with 4 wired ports in the back and we can't get the internet to be shared. Since the router is generally designed to plug a high speed line into it, that's the only place it tells our computers to look for the internet, but we have dialup. I am having problems now too that I can't log on to the router if I'm plugged into it cause when i open internet explorer it just wants to try and setup and internet connection through the router, but of course doesn't detect one because we have no high speed connection in the line The router is a netgear WGB511.

go to this link:

you need to disable dhcp on the wireless router. you'll also have to assign it an IP within the 192.168.0.x. something like 192.168.0.250 would be good.

to do this I'm going to have to configure the router...but I can't login to it for some reason I type in 192.168.1.1 and nothing comes up, or it comes up asking to setup an internet connection through the router

Some routers use 192.168.0.1 instead.

Read the manual that came with the router.

You may need to reset the router to factory defaults. Check in the manual for the details.

the factory default was 192.168.1.1, and i did reset it. I used to be able to log on to the router no problem and change configurations, but I changed some settings and did "test" and then it stopped working, so I did the reset button on it, and when i try and login to the router it wants to setup an internet connection.

ICS defaults to 192.168.0.1. You'll have to set a static IP on the 192.168.1.x subnet to configure the router.
