Alright. My friend asked me to come over to his house to other day to look at his laptop he said wasnt working. So I did. I looked and looked but couldnt find the problem. His laptop powers up alright but then at the bios screen it stops working even before it counts the ram. I mean there is no ram counting screen at all. I took the ram outta the machine and switched it around and stuff. Still nothing. I took the battery out seeing if this was the problem. Nothing. I took all the pcmcia cards out to see if this was the problem. Still nothing. Harddrive out, nothing. I have no clue whats wrong with this machine. Could this machine have been hit with the CIH virus and completely wacked the FLASH CHIP and need it to be re-programmed? I'm not sure. Need help with this problem.

--EDIT--
O ya, and he said it was working when he first got it which was like at the beginning of the summer but died a week later.

More info about the laptop would be helpful.

Another thing to consider is did he accidentally set the bios password since the only way to disable it is to call the manufacture with the model/serial numbers and get the overide password. Oh, and you have to be the original owner to get this password too.

Was it brand new in the box when he got it?

If so, contact the manufacturer, they may know what's wrong and how to fix it. They may also replace it.

Good Luck
