I have a customer who has a problem of losing her partition all the time. So I put in another hard drive a newer one, but not new, shouldn't be anything wrong with it, and now that she has had it for about a month she has called and says the same thing is happening again. Could there be 2 bad hard drives or what I think is that her daughter who is the one that uses it is fooling around with Fdisk or something, when I asked her the first time it happened she said no, but my question is what could cause this besides using FDISK????

Possibly a virus.

It could be a defective ide controller in the motherboard or overheating problems-- It can damage the hard drive.

are you running at an unusual clock speed like 75mhz or something? I have heard that hard drives sometimes get fouled up by anything other then 66. (older hd's, anyway)
Check the cooling too?
