Yes, Sun Microsystems now owns "Star Office" - and Star Office 5.1 for Windows KICKS ****! ..and it's free for download!!!! (I bought the CD for $9.95 + shiping) Star Office 5.1 is a full featured office suite that integrates well with Windows and has literally amazing capabilities, including an integrated internet browser and Java runtime enviroment.

There is a trick to installing it successfully (at least I had to do it this way) - 1. Copy the "Office 51" folder to your hard drive. 2. Open "Office 51" and find "Setup.zip" folder; unzip it and place its contents into the "Office 51" folder (okay the overwrite of "Setup.exe" 3. Now double click on the new "Setup.exe"

When you are done you can delete the "Office 51" folder that you used to set the whole thing up, and get back some disk space.

The whole thing is about 1/4 the size of MS Office.

Don't miss your chance to thumb your nose at Microsoft!

The 3D graphing is excellent! Wow, this definatly beats MS Office 2000 or Wordperfect 2000! And to think, its free!

One thing though, when your downloading it is 60+ megs and you can't resume, so make sure you have a stable connection

Cmonster,

You actually beat me to posting this same thread last night as I noticed that Sun was offering the Win version when I downloaded the Linux version last night /forum/biggrin.gif. So far I like it for Linux but I will download the Win version tonight and load it my daughters win98 machine and see how well it runs.(she has the smallest of the harddrives in the family and Office 2K takes up the largest amount (even more than the OS!)

Thanks for posting this for the others!

Just an addition to CMonster on installation.
People have been getting a 'soffice.ini' error when trying to start SO for the first time. As the sole user of my computer I have no Windows Profiles and that seems to be a problem. I had to make a Windows user Profile using the name I put into the user information of the instalation program. SO will then work on the default Profile and additonal Profiles.
