got a problem. My new system is great, but it's my old system.
over 6 hours to install windows98. The old system is using a Asus P2L97/266 celeron/ 128mg of SDram/12x cd-rom/250 watt power supply in a tower case/3.1 gb Western Digital Caviar/ 16 bit sound card. The bios sees everything. Scrubbed the hd. Used my new system to get the old one to boot. No problem there. Someone said it may be the power supply is going bad. What do you think.
I need an answer? I am tired of waiting for this thing to load Win98!!!!!

6 hours? Wow!
There is something definitely wrong. First thing that comes to mind is how your HD is set up in the BIOS. You can use Auto or you can Detect the HD (or vice versa) to see if that helps. Also, check the jumpers on the drive. Do you have it on the same IDE as another drive or CD Drive?

I did all that. Bios sees the hd (set it to auto and single drive) and set hd and cd jumper. Believe it or not it is still installing after 4 hours, says 248 minutes remaining. I know the cd and the hd are talking to each other. Someone said that it may be the power supply?

umm, chad. If you were having a problem, would you be amused by your answer ("hahaha", etc.)? Think about that for next time, ok?

Chad does have a point mixed in with the ha's - your CD Drive could be the culprit.

Chad that wasn't funny..I don't think it's the power supply, so I maybe next to try the cd. Wish I had another one. Time to go to auctions again. Initial install still says 374 minutes. Ouch. Tried another surge, It feels like a power problem. Thanks everyone.

thanks everyone, by process of elimination it looks like the problem is the power supply. Used my cd from my new system (I know it works, no dice, I know the floppy works, even went as far as taking out my hd from my new system same thing. So thanks to all.
