I currently have a Celeron 333, and have been looking for some time to upgrade to a faster, cheaper processor. I've looked over Athlons, and while I'm not a big fan or AMD, I was impressed. From what I've read, the Athlon is a SlotA. How is that different from a Slot1?
Would an Athlon be the cheapest way to go?

Slot A is Physically same to Slot 1, cept its electronically different (athlon will fit into slot 1 but wont work in slot 1..and P3 will fit into slot a but wont work in it)
Think thats right anyways

That's correct. Slot A is the same physical connection as slot 1 but electrically they are totally different & require different chipsets.
You will not be able to get an Athlon without a new mainboard & maybe a bigger power supply. Apparently AMD want them matched up with 300W supplies. Not sure how vital this is though.

From what I've read this is not the cheapest way to go. If you want a high end system then it is the way to go.

Definitly. Celly is the only good 'cheap' processor in my opinion.
