Ok, within the past 2 weeks, I've had to reinstall Windows 98 because my computer would not boot up Windows. It always states this system file or that is missing (that Windows needs to run) which I know is not true. Somehow, my files keep getting corrupted and the file structure gets messed up too according to my scandisk results.

So are we dealing w/ a hard drive going bad here? I can't think of any other component that would lead to this kind of problem. Anyone have an idea? Thanks.

Have you checked for a virus?

Most of the HD manufacturere have a program to test their HD's to see if they are working. You also have scandisk and defrag to see where your system stands...have you tried any ot these things, and if so, what do they tell you. I'm with Susan..I vote for a possible virus.

It sure sounds like a virus. Try McAfee.
