Recently my computer will not successfully complete a warm reboot (Start -> Shutdown -> restart) It gets to the part where my autoexec.bat loads (although everything is rem-ed out so it won't) and it just freezes. But if i do a cold boot it starts right up. This just started happening about two days ago and i have never had this problem in the months that i have owned the machine.
I have a K6-2 333 on a biostar M5ala mobo with 128 pc-100 ram, 4.3 gig WD hard drive, All in wonder 128, diamond monster sound mx300, and Diamond monster 2 Voodoo2 card, Creative labs 6x DVD, and CDRW 4224.
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?

I have not changed anything except i made my swap file permanent instead of letting Win98 mangle err.. manage it. After i did this my printer port, comm port, floppy disk controller, and mouse had to be reinstalled for some reason. But i have not changed anything other than that.

I had a similar problem. I'm not sure what had happened, whether I had installed some little thing somewhere, or if one of my kids did, but all went to hell in a hand cart!!!
I re-installed win98 over - the - top, and it still did it!!! I "lost" my win98 disk, but have the cab files on my had, so over - the - top is the only way I can re-install! You know what finally fixed it,,,,,
I reverted back to an old version of my registry. I got in the habit of backing it up with nuts and bolts. Every couple of weeks, I'll "tune-up" my registry to weed out orphaned keys, etc. Before I do so, I back up the "current" reg.
So, I loaded one up from about a week ago, and badda boom, badda bing! All is well in river city. I know you can run regscan, but to date, i have no experience with it. You might just want to give this a shot.
If you can remember a day when you didn't have this problem, go back to that day, or the day before, and load that copy of your reg.
Good luck in all...
Mike P.
