Hi,

I have reformated my comp and I'm now trying to reconnect myself to the net. My problem is that my modem wont go over 12000 bps. I have a FM56-P V.90 and the driver from aopen usaé all seems to work great but my connection is so slow. Before reformating, I could go at 49300 bps. HEEELLp MMMEEE!!!!!

have you reintalled the right driver/modem also check you windows max speed settings
Go into control panel, double click the modem, click properties, what speed are you set at if higher than your max on modem set it to 57600 make sure only coonect at this speed is not checked. On connection check that you are set to your ISP requirements.

Well...

I've already checked everything and all seems to work fine. I don't know why but I suspect the driver to be the problem. I got the one from Aopen but I'm not sure this is the one I was using. Before, I was using a driver and an update to place my modem in V.90 mode. Now, they only have one driver. What should I do?

Well, I hate to shamelessly plug software, but I had a similar problem. I have USR/3Com sportster 56k v.90. I was connecting at 49000 and usually got somewhere around there for downloads. Then, I reformatted and installed Windows98. I got connected faster, but now I got crappy speeds, like that of a 14.4 modem. So I said what the hell, and paid for software that you see in a banner ad on this site: TweakDUN 2.2. It was only $15 and now I get normal speeds again. I guess it is possible that when you reformatted some of the drivers didnt install right. I would try it..hell its only $15 and it certianly cant hurt your performance. Also, check your phone lines.

On a USR - V90/56K on my son's machine, I ended up reinstalling the last downloaded driver I had for the modem from USR. Before re-installing the driver (and after re-installing windows) it worked "slow" again. It seems the one that comes with windows is not the one to give you the fastest speeds, in many instances. I'd try installing the latest driver from the manufacturer. You may find sone help here... www.spy.net/%7Edustin/modem/ (http://www.spy.net/%7Edustin/modem/) or maybe from here... www.56k.com/ (http://www.56k.com/)
