Well first off..I have written to a couple of ohter people about an issue I am haivng getting this new game to run. I just got the game Chronicles of Riddick today and it loaded just fine...
Upon hitting the enter key to bring up the opening game screen, i get a very radical slowdown and freeze frames to the point of not moving at all mostly.
From the looks of it, it is the main game/options screen that slidesd into view from the left..but I get a black rectangular something that then goes into this wierd block building thing..or whatever ( not important)

Last night I downloaded the latest Forceware drivers(76.84) from Nvidia and played at least four games without any problems and none are noticable in any display proerties or desktop.
Could this be a p[ossible conflect with these new drivers or what??

Thought about uninstalling and reinstalling the game..but wanted some feedback from others who may have thiese issues in something they play or this game.

I have read the read me sheet for the game and did not find anything ( issues known ) to be a major porblem... I have disabled the virus programs and nothing else is running to interfere.

Have also thought about installing it to my other drive and see what happens there.

I may have made a mistake by not uninstalliong my old drivers before installing the new ones. I just downloaded them and installed over my old ones...but i think the new driver build does this in its program for you.

Thanks for any feedback.

I also wrote another post in the VC section as I do not know which issue it is ...the game or my VC drivers..or something else.
;)

Found it - I'll PM you as well since I said I would.

We used the official 66.93 driver, then we used the beta 67.03 drivers available from NZone, and then we used the latest beta driver we could find, which was version 71.24. We wanted to find out if any of the games we are currently playing have SLI profile support between these three driver sets.

Chronicles supposedly ran on all three - just minus SLi for it.

Here is the article for reference.

SomeoneStupid....Thanks alot for the info...and link. I am now just getting around to checking my emails again as after i posted there were no replies for quite a while...but I knew someone would.( is that a pun?).
I figured that it was more than likely the driver issue as it just loaded too well and opening screens (game apromo ect... ) ran fine.

For purposes of checking it out ,I let a friend load the game on his machine ,which is quite abit lower than mine in speed and VC..and it did somewhat the same thing on his, although he was able to at least look at the options game screen that pops nto view..and then he said it just took forever for the game to load after that...so he gave up after 20 mins. He has a XP2200 CPU and a ATI 9250 VC with the latest drivers.

Its funny as when I loaded the demo for SC 3 ,which I already completed, I got a twirling screen issue...which is hilarious to see but no good for the game.

Will read your private message and other as soon as I get off here. Thanks so much.;)

A few notes of interest for the stupidily short readme:

"The game requires Service Pack 1 for Windows XP.
The game requires Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000."

"If you are experiencing slow-motion or slow game performance
running the game on Windows 64, restart the computer and make
sure that the "Cool & Quiet" function is disabled in the BIOS."

A side note - the past 2 of 3 games I've bought needed to be returned, one twice, because of bad media. One of the three actually would make it through install. All three of the bad disk seemed to have a air pocket btw the media substrate and the acrylic of the CD itself. The one that installed though it wasn't very obvious.

I don't know if starbreeze has it's own forums or not - will try to google that up.

Eugh - I found the forums. They are a PITA to navigate and practically every single thread is about people having issues with this game running.

Here is the forum, currently trying to get some useful info out of it. Some seem to be saying installing SP 2 for XP works - some aren't though. :(

The more I look at the forum, the more it appears that if your having issues that it might not be worth it to chase them down. If installing an older driver doesn't work - SP2 is a bit of a download just to test to see if it'll work. If I had known this game was so damned buggy I wouldn't have recommended it. The mods seem to be trying to help and are successful some of the bloody time. Post a DXDIAG (as that is what they will ask for) along with your symptoms if you want to try to get it to work through them.

SP2 and playing with sound acceleration (even if diag says it works) in dxdiag seem to be the most common fixes.

There is no patch for the game - and it appears that since it is a Vivendi title there never will be.

I'm sorry I recommended this apparently **** poor code job to you - I really am.

SomeoneStupid.....

PLEASE...do not feel as though it is in any way your fault for me buying this game. The fact that you are so concientious and feel badly attest to that.

Not unlike alot of us gamers or users which expect perfection about every turn, life is not always to our satisfaction..nor does it always if ever lead up to our loftly expectations.

You have provided plenty of very useful info and again I thank you for being so honest and straightforward about things..

After my friend brought the game back...trying it out,it was late and I stayed up most of the night ,like the idiot I am,playing CS Source. very addicting game if you like it.

I am now..just going to use the uninstall remove utility and reinstall the older drivers..and then try and open the game again.
If...the game still does not perform or acts up and or is not ot my satisfaction...then I myself will embark on a little campaign of my own informing Vivendi or at least Starbreeze Studios that their game and advertising are missing vital info and they should come clean..and not misinform the public. It could be a serious case of false advertising or lead to other embarrassments forthcoming.

Considering about 99% or the games I get work well or as advertised...it just becomes in a matter of time, that ones luck or the odds catch up.

If the game does not work out, then I might lose some money ,but i will try to sell it back to the seller or someone else.

Thanks for your very good efforts in all of this.
 :( :p ;)

RR: Thanks - still feel a bit bad, but it obviously was something I wasn't going to see. It isn't like Vivendi's forums are in my bookmarks so I see why I missed it as it works beautifully for me. Hopefully you can get it to run, or at the very least get some money back on it. I pretty much have grown fairly complacent when it comes to most titles as games now generally work. When I saw them asking for DXDIAG info I was wondering if the programmers had borrowed my name. I haven't seen request for that info in a long time. A driver release is as far as I have had to go. It is ashame if you can't get it to run as it is one of the few games that IMO really pushed certain aspects of gameplay in quite awhile. Best of luck with it. :t

Well... here is the update.

I did uniiinstall and reinsatll my old drivers (1)

I then made sure I installed DX 9c again.... and I did (2)

Lowered the resolution to 800 X 600...., changed the refresh rate to 60 MHZ (3)

Tried to play the game..and still same thing ...no change whatsoever.( this is with all virus programs and other disabled )

I then decided to uninstall it and install it in my other drive. I did that.

Tried it again hoping that the other drive would allow me to play it ( just hoping as sometimes some games work better on that drive...due to fat32 file system.

Result: same thing.. same thing. Whew!!

( side note: I do have SP1 only and the updates on my machine )

Thats it for me. I am done with it. I wash my hands of anything so messed up and obviously from what yu said there are enough peole who have serious issues with it to warrant them maybe doing a recall and IGN ( can't stand that site ) doing an about face and bend over.

Never in all my gaming and games I have bought or played has a game not worked after loading so good and opening up just fine. You hit the enter button and whammo...game engine just bites period.

How in the world did you get the game to play for you???

Either the game is messed up or my system is messed up somehow..which is mute as evrything else plays great.

About the drivers... well... why in the world would anybody have to install or uninstall there current drivers that run everything out there on the market...just to play this game??? This is real strange...and far too much hasssle for a silly game.( although I feel pretty silly right about now)

Next step..... contacting Starbreeze Studios and asking whats up with this..ect.. and or Vivendi, of which I have several of their games and they all work great.

Now I have to find a buyer or the seller to try and get some money back from this.

P.S. It is not your fault!!! The game should just work like HL2 or D3 or waht have you... tried and tested game engines...obviously this one comes up short.
