I have a PC100, SuperSocket7, M598 w/ AMD k6 2/350 with WIN98 os. When I click "Start" then "Shutdown", the message "It is now safe to turn off your computer" comes on followed by an audible "click". The system is supposed to turn off automatically but does not, I have to use the power button. How do I set my system board up to do this? I have the users manual, but it does not clarify this proceedure. Thank you for any suggestions.

If you have an AT case, then powering off with the switch is normal. ATX has auto shutoff.

That board is capable of handling AT or ATX
so you can have either.

How do you know if you have an AT or ATX case?

The AT power connector has 2 plugs that connect to a single row of pins, end to end on the motherboard.

The ATX connector is a single plug that is rectangular in shape and connects to 2 rows of pins on the motherboard.

The most definitive way is to open the case and look at the power lead that goes to the MB. An AT PS has two separate plugs next to eachother with a total of ten wires...an ATX has one single plug with a total of 20 wires.
