Hi a chap brought an AST 486 in the other day asked if I could take hard drive out and install it in a case with cable link to an IDE interfase card in an Atari ST1040 hard drive was a quantum pro ide 170 meg, I thought I'd try computer out before stripping it as I had some hard drive of same spec's in stock, and he had said to throw away the computer once I had removed hard drive, well when I powered up the computer came back as hard drive not recognised, so I set the spec's in the bois and set computer on it's way (boot),this time it came back with NO BASIC,

so I tried hard drive in a later AST with auto detected system, this time it came back with NO BASIC INSTALLED, as yet I have not come across this as an error message before, any one else had this?

this is a matter of interest query as I sold the chap another hard drive (500meg) which he now reckons will be impossible for him to fill up on his ST system ( the bliss of older machines and compact programing)

problem solved, got a old HP vectra up and running, this thing was magic alowed access to drive, able to format it and install op sys to it, the chap is now over the moon as he now has a second hard drive would appear that the drive was totally empty and the other computers could not recognise it so kept giving the message NO BASIC.
