Ok now I switch the cables and eveything and the Light isnow off on my A: drive. But I still can't use it and at boot up It says that there is an A: drive error and to press F1 to resume. I also installed Norton Antivirus 5.0 and every time I shut down my computer it is suppose to scan the A: drive and it does. I can see the light go on and off. Now my question is if it can scan the a drive when a program calls for it than why can it read data form any disks through explorer or any other program?

could it be that I have to switch the cables on my MB?

It's beginning to sound like an I/O conflict problem. I have no idea if this thought will fix it, but it can't hurt. Try connection the A: drive to the B: drive connector on the ribon, then go to 'SETUP' and enable 'Swap floppy drive'. I'm not sure if you will have to assign the 1.44 floppy to the B: drive in setup, or if you can leave it assigned to the A:, but if one doesn't work then try the other.

You did say that the floppy worked correctly when you disconnected the CD-r drive did'nt you?

I think someone else suggested that you install the CD-r in place of your existing cd-rom, did you try that?
