WinXP itself has Firewall

make sure you have WinXP RC2

WinXP64 bit is only up to RC2, there are no service packs out for the beta software yet.

There are only very limited support for 64bit apps right now. I haven't found a reasonably proced antivirus yet that runs 64 bit. Symantec has an Enterprise version but you must buy 5 client licenses

Every anti-spyware program seems to run fine under WinXP64 bit..

Im not sure what you need exactly, as the BETA download of Win 64 bit comes with a firewall (as in service pack 2)

Just use the firewall that comes with XP. I hope you're not expecting the beta version of the OS to perform like a real release.

any software that connects to the hardware at some level must be 64bit

everything else can be 32bit
