After running registry sweep, from the pgm Cleansweep, my icon is missing. I reinstalled everying from the backup that 'registry sweep' made, but that didn't help.

Where is the file for this located? I think it's called 'Show Desktop.scf'. I did find a few using the find command, but none of them do a thing.

How can I get this to work again?

I'd suggest you use TweakUI (available on the win98 CD). I'll assume you've got this tool, so please tell me if you don't and I'll post more info.

Anyway open Tweak UI, goto "IE4" and deselect "IE 4 enabled", hit apply and then select the same option again and click OK. Maybe the sun will shine?

Other than this an easier way is to press Windows key (provided you have it on your keyboard) and "M". This will minimize all windows on the desktop.

Or windows "D" (desktop).

TweakUI (I love this utility!) also has a Repair tab, try the Rebuild Icons listing.

Thanks, I do have TweakUI, so I will try that, and if that doesn't work, I can live with the Windows key "D".

there should be 2 copies of this file on your hardrive. This is the address where all the links on that "quick launch" toolbar are located. Oddly enough, the show desktop icon is actually the file, not just a link. here is where it should be (use your own drive letter)
C:\WINDOWS\Application\Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
there should also be another copy in your c:\windows\system
folder. If you can't see the files, make sure that you don't have the system files hidden in the my computer settings.
If you can't find it anywhere... maybe it's on your win 98 disk?
