I tried to disable my password in CMOS, it came back password disabled. After exit and save and rebooting it came back asking for a password and the old one didn't work. Figure.

I've tried the CMOS reset by using the insert key during reset; didn't reset CMOS.

Now I've found the CMOS Clear jumpers on the MB. Shorted them while computer was off; didn't remove password. Shorted them after turning the computer on; didn't work.

How do you reset CMOS on a MT5576 Pentium PCI with Award Bios v4.51PG.

Please help.

Jim

I am not familar with your board, but here is a utility which "kills" the cmos and re-sets to the original default settings that might work. Its available at: www.nettally.com/waldoe/freeware/new.html (http://www.nettally.com/waldoe/freeware/new.html)

Here is what the site says about the program

K-CMOS32.ZIP 39KB 09-27-96 Bypass forgotten CMOS passwords or corrupt CMOS settings - KillCMOS basically "resets" your computer's CMOS settings to the factory defaults. Works with ALL CMOS. KiLLCMOS only changes checksums & values that makes the motherboard CMOS revert back to factory defaults. ** IT DOES NOT ReProgram your CMOS like a FLASH ROM Writer does. ** IT DOES NOT DAMAGE Hardware. KiLLCMOS reads/writes to areas of the CMOS that gets written to everyday the difference is the VALUES that we give it(cmos)

Good luck.

Take out the battery and put it back. It clears CMOS. You have to reset then, so write down your CMOS/BIOS settings.

Hope that will help you.

some mobo's also have a little jumper you have to use while the battery is out to clear the capacitors on the board, so the cmoas loses all its settings
