Does this sound familiar to someone?

My modem sometimes hangs up while I'm busy with internet or downloading.
Sometimes after one hour sometimes after one minute or so. (Seems to happen random.)
The connection itself is always 49333 bps so that's ok.

It's not a modem problem because I tried more then one, also another PC is used.

HELP,

Thanks in advance,

Bas.

If you've tried other modems, and a different computer with same result, call your ISP, and tell them you keep getting dropped. If they say it's not them, call your telephone company, and tell them you need a test ran on your line, you could be getting interference from something down the line, that keeps causing your connection to drop.

For downloading, you can get "GoZilla". It makes it so you can resume a download if you get dropped in the middle of it. It's a free download. I don't have the URL off hand, but you can do a search for it on any search engine.

Did you disable call waiting? Maybe you're getting disconnected when someone's trying to call in. Just a thought... Good luck.

By the way, I'd recommend Getright over GoZilla. It's friendlier in my opinion...

Both of the above.

Try these for troubleshooting in the meanwhile, both these sites are well recommended

Ditto on the GetRight over GoZilla!

MrEd, are you using GoZilla? Just for fun do a Ctrl+F in Regedit.. type in: Aureate... let me know if it turns up.

Socalgal: Yup, havn't had any problems with it either. For giggles, when I get home later, I'll do the CTRL-F, but what is AUREATE?

Aureate is/was a cookie I found in the HKeyCurrentUser/Software portion of my Registry while going thru it a few months ago.

What concerned me was that it wasn't placed where all the cookies usually go - but as Software entry. Expansion of the entry revealed sub-entries. I searched for Aureate online (can't remember the other, sub-entry name, but I had a thread about it - and can't find it now!) and this other sub-entry, and found that they were marketing/advertising sites, collecting "demographic" information.

Maybe I'm just a tad paranoid, but I didn't like it a bit!

And my apologies, Bas, for getting off topic here.

I've had the same problem you are describing, but unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you other than from what I have seen, it has more to do with Windows and it's Dial Up Networking than any other variable.

If you stop at the page where you are experiencing the slow down, and start another location sometimes it helps stop the lag and then you can resume where you were with success.
