i have the sblive! value card, and when i installed it, it automatically put stuff into my autoexec.bat and config.sys files, like loading dos drivers, emm386, himem... all that old stuff. im running win98 se, and i know win98 doesnt need this sh*t, so i took the stuff out. when i rebooted, the card put them back in. i even tried deleting the autoexec and config files all together, but my live card like, creates them and loads up all this stupid stuff whenever i reboot. anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it???? or is all this stuff really necessary to run my sblive card in win98????

These commands are used for DOS SB16 emulation. They are not needed unless you play DOS games. To get rid of them, you need to reinstall the drivers for the SBLive! and when you get an option "Enable SB16 DOS emulation", clear the checkbox beside it. There might be a way to do it without reinstalling, but I do not know it. Anyone else?

ok - i figured it out - what you said about the "emulation" thing tipped me off to it. I went into system properties, and in the "creative misc. devices" i opened up the sb16 emulation device and checked "disable". that fixed the problem. thanx for your help!
