Little things can be irritating

When I put a cd in the cdrom I get the Diablo icon where the cdrom icon was in My Computer Window.This happens no matter what cd I put in.If I put in C&C command and Conquer I get the diablo icon and so on.Has anybody ran across this problem before and if so how do you fix it?It's not effecting my PC it's just irritating to see.

Perhaps you have unchecked "Auto Insert Notification" under the CDROM properties in the Device Manager? That will cause an Icon to remain in place of the CDROM drive icon unless you use the "Eject" command to remove the CD.

Come to think of it that wasn't really what you were asking, was it? I can see how that would be frustrating.

TweakUI, a utility that comes on the Win95 CD but can be downloaded from various sites, has a "Rebuild Icons" option under its "Repair" category. If a regular search doesn't turn up TweakUI, I think if you go to www.annoyances.org (http://www.annoyances.org) and poke around for a bit to find links to a Microsoft site where you can get the program.
