Everytiume I want to copy a file onto my ZIP 100 Drive the computer slows down drastically. /forum/frown.gif I reformated my HDD and the reinstalled the Drivers for the ZIP Drive. No LUCK.

My Setup:
Celeron 300a@450MhZ
32MB PC 100 SDRAM
Voodoo Banshee AGP
Quantum Fireball 5,1
External Zip Drive Paralell Port
Pararlell Mode set to ECP I believe.

I've got an external zip too. Same deal here. Don't think it can be helped. It's not fatal, or damaging in any way, it just slows down the system while files are being written. Not much you can do. The zip comes with a program that is supposed to speed up your parallel port interface, but it didn't make much, if any, difference for me. Sorry.

sorry, it aint going to get any better than it is now. you might optimize your transfer rate ( http://www.juip.com/index.html ), but you won't be able to do anything about the sucking cpu usage or general parallel port slowness.

if it makes you feel any better, the scsi version still slows down my computer much more than any other scsi device and it STILL uses a hunk of cpu time (but at least its faster).

Go to the Control Panel/System/Performance/File Systems/Removable Disk/ and enable the write behind cacheing box

The parallel port drives are just too slow for anything... find someone to buy yours and get an internal IDE one /forum/smile.gif
