which of these video cards gives the best bang for the buck. Im not looking to play at insane frame sizes, just looks decent with high frame rates at 1280x1024 2xAF 4xAA.

bang for the buck is the 6800gt....

the 6600gt = 9800 pro, cept a lil newer and better.

x800 is just plane ole card...

6800 is best in all those, plus decent price/performance.

it'll depend if it's ATI or nVidia

then it will depend on how old is your TV

Ive got a friend selling me a x800 XL BBA ATI card for $250. This is a unused card that is PCIe x16, am i getting a good deal, and how would it perform on a TV?

I will put in another vote for the 6800GT. Bang for Buck, it is the best card hands down. I have one.

I'll tell you straight up;

Got Ti 4200 for $200 about 3 years ago. Loved it 'cept it was on a 1.3Ghz Celeron.
Got a FX 5900 for $200 for my 2.8Ghz P4. Good performance till new DX9 games came out.

Got a 6800 GT for $400 about 4 months ago. Massive leap in frame rates, visual quality, and compatibility with the card. I must say it is the best investment I've made so far.

I'd go with the 6800 GT hands down.

The x800xl has 16 pipes like a x800xt, but is clocked slower. definitely a good buy at $250.

The 6800GTs are very overclockable with most people hitting ultra speeds 400/1100.

TVs just suck for monitors unless they are the newer monitor/TV LCDs or something. Older TVs can't handle higher resolutions.

don't expect the TV to provide you more than 1024x748

that's the highest good TV can go.

ATI quality on TV is netter than nVidia :D

depending on the Quality of the TV, you should be able to Read TEXT in it

You can't go wrong with either the 6800 GT or X800 XL. Both are 16 pipes, that is the most important part. I run my X800 XT-PE at 400 / 400 and I have no problems running anything really. So the slower core speeds on the XL really aren't that damaging. Sure I see benefits at 500/500 or higher, but not enough yet to run it that way. Don't need to kill my card (X800 Pro VIVO flashed to XT-PE).

Can't really speak for the 6800 GT. I've gamed on one several times and it was a nice card. This generation you really just have to find the card in your price point that performs better. Depending on where your at will depend on the card. Though now that ATi has finally gotten cards out the door, you pretty much can get performance from either company within a few percent of the other within 20-30 bucks if you have to go with ATi or nvidia. Nice to finally have options across the board on both sides.
