I have this problem where if I leave my computer alone for a while (3 or so hours), or if I am playing a game for quite a while, my computer quickly runs out of conventional memory, and I have to press the restart button. Every time I get up in the morning, the computer is almost unresponsive, and I have to restart. I am running Win98/Win2000, and I reinstalled Win98, and it did bugger all. I know formating would prolly do the trick, but I don't want to do that.

what do you have your swap file set to in win98?
id set it for the amount of memory you have (128) or 160

have different amounts for min/max causes this afer time also.....(having to write on the hard disk usually causes this kinda slowness..) do you have youre APM functions turned on for your HD that may be a problem also....... i usually let my harddrive just run instead of letting it spool up all of the time.....

I just let Windows auto manage it. If i go to manually change it, it is at min - 0, max-1747. I don't know what the APM functions are, but I haven't changed anything, so it is probably still on what it was originally on.

My friend sais a program called memturboi is good for handling this kind memory problems. It gives me the ****s, because as i'm writing this, my system resources are currently at around 40%, which is too low, when I restart, they are back up to around 90%.

click on file- run- then type sysedit
Click on the config.sys windows and make sure devicehigh=c:\windows\himem.sys ram
is in the file someware.
Also u can see how much memory u got left by typing mem/c/p in command prompt.

Well, i've got about 10 programs running in system tray, but i don't think it'll do that much on a fast comp like mine anyway. Thanx for help guys /forum/smile.gif
