An electrified dog-coat could soon be on sale in Finland to protect pets from predatory wolves.

The dog-coat sends 1,000 volts of electricity through a wolf when it bites into it.

However, it ensures the pampered pet feels no pain from the current, which is designed to stun any wolf that attacks a dog.

Inventor Jussi Aro has already applied for a patent for the battery-powered device.

He hopes it will be available in Helsinki shops by autumn for dog lovers, where 20 to 30 dogs are killed each year by prowling wolves.

Wild wolves are still common in Finland, and they often stray into cities in their search for food - which can sometimes include domestic pets.
