I installed a new Hard drive, and put Windows 98 on it. After setting up all the video and sound drivers, etc. I tried using a joystick, and the computer is not reading it. I checked the device manager and it says device is working but still the computer won't detect a joystick of any kind. I've tried every stick I own. It was working before. The Joystick port is on the Sound blaster compatible sound card.

Have you installed the software drivers for the Joystick? (saw you mention the soundcard and video but not the joystick)

if its any kinda ms sidewinder gamepad/joystick, the old drivers (like versions 1,2,2.5, etc..) never really worked. it always said the joystick was "not connected" even tho it was plugged in alright. the new 3.0 drivers work a lot better - you can get them at http://www.microsoft.com/sidewinder/

hope this helps (that is, if you indeed do have a sidewinder.....)

Here's something that may work for you : forget drivers do a install new joystick and click other then custom then set all parameters to your type of joystick, calibrate then test should work it worked for me.
