For video editing, I would like to set up dual monitors so I can have more room to spread the programs out when they are opened at once. I have a NViDIA 6800GT OC. Is it possible to have dual monitors with this?
Thanks, and sorry if the question isnt clear.

you're asking if you can run in dual monitor mode, right?
you can use the nview utility for that.
here's a good intro to multi monitors:

You might need an extra video card if that ones does not have 2 video out

The 6800GT has dual heads; one VGA and one DVI.
is there a DVI to VGA adapter I can buy so I can plug a second monitor in? Thanks.

At least you kept the box. I've had customer that threw away the box with all kinds of cables and even a 128MB flash drive in there. geez.
I'm just the opposite. King of the Packrats. I keep EVERYTHING. :D

yeah i'm afraid i'm that category too... and it's starting to cause some space problem :p
Time for a garage sale, or Ebay :D
Thanks guys I got it working.
Two things Ive noticed, though.
1 - I have one 17" Flatscreen CRT that is a pretty nice monitor that I run at 1024x768 and 85hz. My second monitor, however, can only run at 60hz on 1024x768 (even at 800x600 it cant get to 85hz). I don't know why, but if I run the monitors at seperate frequencies, then the higher frequency monitor kind of flickers ever so subtle. I guess ill just have to run both at 60hz until I can buy a second, higher-end, monitor.
The second problem I have encounters is that in Adobe Premiere 6.0, I cant drag the preview monitor onto the second monitor. This is the main reason I wanted two monitors, so I could expand the preview monitor to full screen, and drag it over to my second monitor.
Other things (such as the effects menu) will drag from monitor 1 to monitor 2, but the preview screen will not. Any suggestions?? If this doesnt make sense then sorry and ill try to explain it better

hmm... weird, you should be able to do that just fine
that doesn't happen on an ATI system
but even in my ATI + nVidia mix (dual monitor) system that works fine as well.
try to drag it not maximimxed first, then maximize it after you get it over
:t
Yeah i've tried to drag non maximized and it still doesnt work. Its strange. Could it possibly have ANYTHING to due with the fact that monitor #2 is old? I don't know much about this.
Thanks.
EDIT to above post - Nevermind. The problem wasn't the dual monitors or graphics card, it was that Adobe Premiere wont let the preview monitor be dragged outside of its "boundaries". That was easily fixed by just Restoring Down the program and stretching it out onto the second monitor. This now makes the program boundaries twice as big so that I can drag the preview monitor onto the second physical monitor and expand it over there.
This is great, now I have alot more editing room! Thanks for all the help guys, now its time to go buy a second flat screen monitor.
