Ok heres the scoop, I just upgraded to a new mobo and a AMD K6/2 450. Well the mobo manual didnt have the jumper settings for 450, so I ran at 400 for about a week before I finally got the jumper settings for 450. Well when I tried the settings, my system rangomly hangs when booting up.
Now I figure I will buy a Viper V770. Nothing but more problems. Explorer, not IE, crashes frequently. Whenever I run a game using the V770 driver, the system will hang shortly after loading. I have tried the nVidia drivers, I install Dirext X 6.1a, reformatted HDD, man nothing helps.
Any Help, any at all will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you may have the wrong settings.
Download SiSoft Sandra and run it. It will tell you your bus speeds and can sometimes isolate problems. For free (standard version).
Also, what motherboard is it? Did you install the AGP drivers for that board? Each chipset oem has their own. ALi, VIA, SIS, and (are their others, I can't think /forum/wink.gif )

I think your voltage needs to be increased to 2.4v. If you were running at 400mhz, you were using 2.2v. The K6-2/450 uses 2.4v. That would explain some of the infrequent lockups. Since you didn't mention your chipset, I will assume it is a VIA MVP3, since this one seems to need the most work to get running correctly. If it is, you need to get the 4 in 1 drivers located at the Via website, which is "www.viatech.com/drivers/index.htm"
Hope this helps.

But, the manual for your mother board should have an explanation of the jumper settings, ie; options for voltage, which jumpers that effect voltage, what they mean, what the various settings are for a given voltage, right? (?) It should give you the same for multiplier and bus speeds.
So, you should select 100 for the bus speeds, right? Then 4.5 or maybe if you're feeling frisky, 5.0. Then the voltage. Mschuch says the 450 uses 2.4v core voltage, so start with that. If it's a little unstable, then go to say 2.5v. This should help, but at "stock" speed 450, 2.4v "should" do it.

Hmmmm, alos your Motherboard might have the MVP3 or MVP4 Chipset, if so, it has VIA chipset, they have a 4-in-1 Driver that has the BusMastering, AGP, IRQ Miniport and USB Drivers, good deal, I love em, if you have the VIA go here download and install, has built in setup /forum/smile.gif

I am also assuming your Motherboard has AWARD BIOS, if so, enter BIOS and disable Video BIOS shadowing, also disable USB, disable BIOS shadowing. these may help.
I have also noticed some Motherboard's with the K6-XXX CPU, do not like the Pipleine Caching enabled also, IN BIOS, so try disabling that too /forum/smile.gif
