Can anyone please tell me what my PC is doing when all visible activity seems to stop for AT LEAST 30 seconds every time it starts up? It gets so far after checking for viruses and then sits there for what seems to be ages until the green light on my HP 7200i RW flashes and then it continues. What is it doing and why does it take so long? Please help, thanks in advance.

i believe its the Virus program looking for bootable media in all drives to test for virus's before continueing with the normal boot-up.

You should be able to dis-engage the feature through your preference screen of your virus software.

Go to start, programs, then accessories, then system tools. Click on system information then click on tools then system configuration utility and click on the startup tab. Uncheck what items you don't want to run at startup.

I have had the same problem, and my other computer has the same prob. I notice though that it hangs until the CD is done doing whatever. I have no virus software on this computer, and boot up with the bare minumums.

Have you got a network card in that PC?

There is a NE2000 present but not currently in use, could this be the problem?

give your machine a static IP address and it should clear up the problem. Pull the ip address from winipcfg (connect to your ISP first) and enter it under the tcp\ip settings in the control panel.
