A while ago I had some ATI driver problems on my 9600 Pro after loading the SP2 patch. When I got everything stable again, I noticed my AV scans were taking hours to finish. Checked and found that the Temp Internet directory has millions (over 9 gig) of files in it. When I use IE to clear the temp files, these files do not go away. IE thinks that the directory is empty, but it isn't. These files appear to be orphaned from the OS, likely due to all of the system crashes when the ATI driver was not liking SP2. I tried to delete them manually and no go either. It says they are deleted, but they are still there. I don't want to have to reformat and start over. Is there a way to get rid of those files?

Have you tried deleting the files in Safe Mode?
If that doesn't work, I recommend this program. It removes unused and temporary files from your system.

It's freeware as well

Yes in safe mode would be better to delete files but even then they could be stubborn doing all of them at once, if they are then delete in chunks to whittle it down and run disk cleanup every so often or set your internet cache down to something like 50mg so it empties automatically in general tab/internet options.

If the others don't work, try disk cleaner
