DirectCD and W98 scandisk

Suddenly my computer crashes when I try and scandisk my hard drive. The only change since the last time I did scanned was installing my CD-RW and the Adaptec software. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions? I'm running DirectCD 2.5D and W98 first edition. Thanks for any info.

I have the Adaptec software as well as Plextor's software and no problems running scandisk or defrag. you might want to try running it from DOS or atleast in safe mode. (just hit the f8 key before you get to the Win9x splash screen and then choose "safe mode") this way you will start your computer without all the background programs running.

I'm going to go into the startup configuration utility and uncheck DirectCD and see if that solves the problem. I might just have to live with running scandisk from safe mode... Thanks.
