Well, I didn't lose it, it's still there. But all my data is GONE. Zero, Zip, Nada.
Wasn't a virus, I always check before shutting down and have the lastest bat file.
I was installing a HP 8110i just for this purpose, and after the installation program was complete and i went to the drive to burn a cd there was nothing there anymore. No folders, just a root D: directory showing all the drive available as free space.
I've disconnected the drive, does anyone have any suggestions how to maybe recover the drive?
Thanks

Can you give us a little more info on how your system is configured? I.E. which IDE channels are attached to your second drive etc.

C400A, w95b, 128 mb ram, ASUS p2b-f,
maxtox 8gb master, 4 gb slave on primary ide, asus 50x cd-rom & hp8110i cr-r/rw on secondary ide slot. Zip drive on parallel port.
What must have happened; I was doing a full format of some Zip disks to give to a friend. somewhere in there i switched from my E drive (the zip drive) to my D drive (the 4 g maxtor) and formatted that one, erasing the drive. I deduced this because the zip disks I thought I had formatted still have data on them.
But I did full format 2 of the disks and lost that data. I'd still like to recover the D drive, but methinks I'm SOL....

There are data recovery specialists who claim to be able to recover data from a formatted hdd, but they are pretty pricey.

Socalgal: I don't think they just "claim" that. I was told that those guys can recover the EIGHT (8!) latest "saves" to a particular disk area. Anybody else heard about this, or better yet: do you know for sure if it is true?
P.s: I know PGP overwrites a file between 8-10 times when wiping it.
Sounds pretty much like tall talk to me.

Seems to me if the data is vital a check of these outfits may be to your advantage if you're willing to pay their prices; they are expensive. Many offer a free evalution if you send them your harddrive, some within 24 hours.
Doing a search on www.dogpile.com (http://www.dogpile.com) will bring up a slew of recovery services.
For the recovery from a format, I saw this:
