I want to change my PC BIOS Parallel Item from ECP mode to EPP mode for my scanner, but for some reason I can't get in BIOS. I have a Compaq Presario. I've tried F1, F10, ESC, ctrl+alt+esc, CTRL+ALT+Ins, Ctrl+alt+enter, ctrl+alt+S and still NO BIOS Setup info... All these done at the Compaq bootup screen. I downloaded Compaq software
that creates a bios disk, but when i use it, it doesn't recognize my computer's bios info nor can i create or update it... Anyone???

I have worked on several Compaqs that require a special boot disk with a setup utility on it. You just put the disk in the A: drive and start the computer, it will start a setup program to allow you to change BIOS settings. If you don't have one you can download the right one for your computer at the Compaq website.

more details...

everytime i bring up the program to 'aquire' images from my scanner, I get a 'Scanner Not responding' and soon after that a 'Cannot Enable Data Source' Error...
Right now I'm looking at other options like
using one of my USB ports via Parallel-to-USB adaptor cable. I don't know if it'll work
or whether it'll actually do harm since the printer is meant to be connected through the parallel port...

#2,

Your printer is off when you are trying to scan right?I can't think of any reason to go into BIOS for a scanner.
If I recall correctly it took a couple of reinstalls{of scanner}to get mine working.
