Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : HELP! Windows doesn't recognize all my RAM?
I've just installed 128MB PC-100 generic SDRAM in my system.
During the memory test all the RAM is detected but in Windows 98 in the system properties General & Performance tab it only shows 112.0MB RAM
I've tried different DIMM slots & I've even swapped it for another one at the shop.
How do I get Windows to recognise all my RAM?

We could use a bit more information such as Make and Model of your motherboard....I have also replied to your post in the other thread and belive I have your answer for you there.

well, on my wife's comp (its a cheaper, cruddier system than mine, he he he...) she has a video card built into the motherboard. the ram that is used for the "video card" is setup in the bios and actually takes part of the ram from the ram chip, and sets it aside for the video card on the mb. when it boots up it shows 32 megs, but when windows comes up, it displays 24 megs, cuz 8 megs is being used for the video card - does that make sense? anyways, if you have a video card built onto your mb, this could be the cause....

yes, i agree with drdeath, i saw the same behaviour on a friend's pc. In the system startup you see the total memory (128) but in windows it only recognizes the difference between the fisical memory (128 ) and the memory that is used for the virtual video card from the motherboard (16 mb), so you see only 112 mb on windows.
If you payed for a real video card and they put this motherboard with video included, it's time to complain with the vendor /forum/smile.gif
Sorry for the lack of info, my motherboard is a Abit BE6 and my video cards are Diamond Viper V770 (TNT2) & Canopus Pure3D 2 (Voodoo 2)
In the integrated peripherals BIOS menu I changed the:
Init Display First: from PCI to AGP because my Viper is my primary display, that wouldn't cause any problems?
So do you guys think it could be a setting in the chipset features setup menu?
One other problem during boot is my Pure 3D 2 complains about not having enough memory but this screens flashes past before I can fully read it.
Both cards work fine in windows.
