I have just built up a system comprising
an Abit ZM6 board
Celeron 400 CPU
64 Mgs of PC-100 RAM
Creative TNT video card (AGP)
WIN95
The system went well for about three days. It locked up and I turned it off. When I turned it back on I only had 16 colours available. I have tried every possible combination of uninstalling, deleting, reinstalling and updating drivers to no avail. I have upgraded to win98, reinstalled win98 on top of the old install, deleted win98 and reinstalled and finally reformated the hard drive. Regardless of what I do the problem remains the same with errors about hardware conflicts at startup and not being able to get more than 16 colours.
I have put my old 1 meg S3 PCI card back in. I can get 16 bit colour with this. This card
worked initially but I still get the odd hardware conflict message and get dropped into the hardware setup wizard along with a message along the lines of "The device is not present or not working properly or does not have all the drivers installed
(Code 24)" and again I have only 16 colours.
I can reinstall the PCI drivers but after a day or three I lose the drivers again and am back to 16 colours. The good news is at least I can reinstall the PCI drivers whereas the AGP/Creative TNT drivers just do not "Stick".
My only conclusion is that I have a an intermittent mother board problem. I can't think of anything that I can do to further pin down the problem. Can anyone confirm my diagnosis or point me in the right direction?
Thanks
