When I got this computer, I specified to the guy that I wanted a minimum of 32MB SDRAM. Which was reflected on the receipt.
Now, when I run Sandra, "she" tells me that I have two sticks of ram (correct) @ 16MB each. It also says that the ram is EDO. Now I haven't counted the number uf pins, but my mainboard manual tells me that the ram sockets are 168-pin. A guy at another local comp shop says that doesn't make sense. That edo is 72-pin, and sdram is 168-pin...
Is this so? Is Sandra blowing smoke up my skirt (kilt!) here or what?
Any input is appreciated.

There are 168 Pin DIMM's that are EDO, but they are not SDRAM. Sounds like you have EDO DIMMS, grandslammer.
You can read more here:

As Susan has suggested go read the link (I have not yet but headed there). I do know that EDO aswell as Fastpage "dimms" were made in 168 pin form. as for the order that they were introduced it was Fastpage then EDO and now the "current" spec of Sdram. EDO is only like 70ns and 60ns speed memory and will cause a "bottleneck" if used with faster processors than around 233mhz. To clear up a bit of memory naming for you...."SIMM" stands for "Single Inline Memory Modual" and "DIMM" is "Duel Inline Memory Modual" and from within "DIMM's" there are infact standards of "Fastpage", "EDO" and "SDRAM".
I hate to say it but it looks like your vendor sold you "Old Generation" ram when you thought getting 168pin memory automaticly made it "SDRAM"
Hope this helps /forum/biggrin.gif

Back from the website that Susan mentioned Will confirm what I said above and I would also add this link for you to read. www.simpletech.com/memory/dimmsimm.htm (http://www.simpletech.com/memory/dimmsimm.htm) as it explains more about Simm's and Dimm's.

Well well, it looks like I took it on the chin again! (Or maybe somewhere else, huh?) Oh well, I guess the guy that put it together for me figured I'd never know the difference........
Thanks for the info, and the url. This guy that I've talked to lately said that he would give me something as trade - in if I wanted to buy pc100 sdram from him. I guess it wouldn't make any sense to get 133, because my board won't support over 100mhz fsb speed.
But, he also wants $96 for a stick of 64 mb sdram. He says the prices bottomed out a couple of weeks ago, and are climbing back up. I'm checking the 'net now, because with the advent of 133 ram, I can't see why the "older" 100mhz ram would be going up..
Maybe they just think that small town people will believe whatever they're told! thing is, I wasn't born here!
Thanks for all, everyone...

RAM prices indeed are creeping upwards. It's a strange market.
I like to shop at www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) . Also, you might like to study the SDRAM Survey at www.bxboards.com (http://www.bxboards.com)
