MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum
I'm having some problems getting my memory running up to speed. using an amd 2100 with a fsb of 133x13 for 1750mhz
but the memory is ddr400 and only running at 266?

I'm not sure if this is correct as i don't usually dabble in the bios.
the numbers are from sandra.I'm wondering if i have the multiplier or something else wrong.

Your memory is currently in sync and will perform best that way. You can run it async and boost it to 200MHz, but I don't recommend it.

You say ddr400 only at 266???? You mean 266mhz or running ddr266 speed?

I thought ddr400 is supposed to run 200mhz...

Look it up. Asychronous operation actually hurts performance.

bill is right and with it being sync with the processor and it being DDR 400, you have more overhead in your overclocking without having to worry about if your ram can handle the overclock, so now it would be solely dependent on what your processor and board can do.

Your chip is designed to run at 133. Not 200. Yes you can run your memory asynchrously (out of sync with proc speed) you will see no speed improvement or even take a hit in performance and may cause system instability.

If you want to get the full benefit of your ram buy a Barton core chip or a AMD +2400 mobile chip and OC the fire out of it!!

Just want to add. That board is killer. Probably the most stable K7 board made. It has a ton of OC options (CELL). Spend the $75 on a mobile chip and let that board do what it was designed to do. FLY BABY FLY!! You can/will be able to run AMD mobile chip to atleast AMD XP 3000/3200 speeds. 2.0Ghz and more.

ive also heard from multiple ppl that the mobile 2500+ is a awesome oc'er as well. I am not sure, but are all mobile XP processors unlocked multipliers?

lower multi and raise fsb.. see how far the chip will go. That is the best way to increase performance without spending money.

At the very worst I would aim for 166 * 10.5 which will net you roughly the same in terms of mhz but increased performance due to higher fsb (and memory running closer to spec)

The chip should handle it..

hehe, for once i actually did some research on a board before buying. i did try running it at 200 and it wouldn't post and i actually had to pop the battery as the jbatt jumper wouldn't reset the bios for some reason. i'll try the 166 x 10.5 later today and see how it goes.
thanks for the ideas.

make sure you unplug the powersupply cable from the back as well

ok,i'm an idiot and forgot the first thing to do if it won't post after a reset. unplug all the add-ins and extra drives.
for some reason my sata drive (boot) wouldn't let it post. after unplugging everything except the vidcard and the fsb fan it posted. settings are back to original (133 x cpu default) and seem to be working well.
i'll set a baseline later and try the cell settings for an OC later in the week.

thanks all,
