Every once in awhile and this has happened more than a few times in the past..I get kicked from a server because my ping is too high....
I have a very fast internet connection and everything works good....
Was just playing on a server I haven't played before for CS Source...and got kicked doe too hiigh a ping.
Any way I can get this lowered....and in that specific game and whatever else...is there a place to find what my ping is at the moment?
Why does this happen???

Your ping is speed in which a packet is reiceved from their server and your computer responds. Sometime sif you have automatic updates enabled this will cause you ping to jump as you computer updates in mid game. I disable all automatic updates to stop this happening in games.
Also make sure you dont have any other applications running while you are playing your game (especially P2p programs).
If you still have trouble you could try disabling some of your Windows services from blackvipers guide (i can't find the link though).

yeah.. I can remember a few times in the past where my connection was lost due to something updating and it just plain annoyed the heck out of me.... goo d point.
Sometimes it is hard to tell what is doing it...if I knew I would do something about it.... I might have some things interfering..like i have two a spyware blocker running at all times and it might be adjusted for auto update....I'll check

Well I have Spybot - Teatimer and SDhelper
Spyware Blaster
M$ Anti-Spyware
All running activly all the time, so I doubt that is the problem unless you have limited RAM.
But make sure that all your programs dont have automatic update enabled, or if you want them on auto then put it for a time that dosn't matter and won't interfere

Within the normal range bad gaming is usually Not bad pings, but the quality of the Neurowares.

as long as your ping is below 250 then you are fine
anything more, then you'll need to dissable anything that uses networking in your PC and home in general
if it's simply your ISP there's nothing you can do, but to switch ISP or move your house to a better location :D (a bit extreme just to play a game) :p

Actually, If i remember right...I have differing pings at different times ...some low ,some alot higher...
As far as I can tell i do stay below 200 most all the time......
I may be making more of this then need be...its just a curious thing..like all of us..I just want to know where it comes from and wht is going on to cause this....
Tend to believe it IS a network thing or autoupdate..as even with a couple of programs running in the background..I have so much stuff ( programs loaded into this OS HD ..its hard telling..
Thanks for the good answers and replies..guys;)

Well, there is one thing you can try.
Download this program: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml
Put the file somewhere (no need to install), drag a link to the desktop and execute.
You will see all the process that is running, you can kill whatever you deem being unessential and see what happens to the Game.
The advantage of doing so instead of playing with the services is that when you boot next time the computer comes back normally. This program kills the process only for the current session.
:t
P.S. It also a good proggie to find out Trojan and spyware that are running in the background.
