I have a Creative Encore 6x DVD with a Dxr3 decoder card and a SBLive Value sound card. I am trying to get the DVD to play thru my home theater system.

First problem is the video. It isn't too bad, but there is a noticable horizontal band that starts at the bottom of the screen and rolls up.

Secondly, the audio is unplayable. There is a loud hum and the sound from the movie is just barely audible.

The system works beautifully thru my PC monitor and speakers. I just rather watch on 32" TV with surround sound than a 17" moniter and 2 tiny speakers.

Could this be an interference problem? Given that it works on the PC, I'm not sure this is it.

Thanks for any help and let me know if you need more info.

The rolling horizontal bar is a "hum bar". It rolls due to the difference in the AC line frequency (divided by 2) and the color frame rate 29.9Hz.

Try eliminating the "ground loop" that exixts by virtue of the shield on the video and audio interconnects. One way is to use transformers on the links. Another is to "lift" the safety ground to the computer or the TV (or both). Keep in mind there is a reason it is called "safety ground".

With the extra ground path(s) removed, the audio hum also should go away.
