I'm purchasing some Verbatim DVD-R media from Newegg:

Either I'm buying Model #94984 or Model #94852 - or Verbatim DVD-R 50PK and Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD-R 50PK, respectively.
The two factors I care about are archival durability and compatibility with stand-alone DVD players. I won't be employing silk screen printing; so, that trait of the DataLifePlus line is void for my purposes.

DataLifePlus entails "superior archival life", but I find myself wondering just what the heck that means. Does Verbatim have experimental data on its site, such that it evidences that the DataLifePlus line will last longer than the "regular" Verbatim media? I mean, it would be nice if they could at least explain the material differences between both lines of media.

Again, I just want something that is widely compatible and will last a long time. And, additionally, can anyone verify that the DataLifePlus line will last longer than the regular Verbatim line (and, just in case anyone thought, I am aware of proper DVD/CD care)?

Thank you all very much for your hospitality.

I doubt that anyone can verify durability since it would take years to do so. Each new batch has different characteristics, so previous experience would be invalid for new batches.

All I know is that Verbatim is my favorite brand of media - if only because that's pretty much all they do. Sony, Memorex, TDK and others are busy with other products (OK - not so much TDK). I've had good experiences with Verbatim.

BpB's right - media is really important if you're planning on using home and portable DVD players, and be sure to watch for DVD-r v DVD-R+

I've had alot of problem with media compatibility, even CDRW - older drives, mostly laptops I've found, don't seem to even recognize the faster media like 8X, 12X etc.
