hi,

I need some assistance here.
I own a Shuttle AK31 v.3.1 motherboard.

The small North Bridge Fan4 (which appears to be cooling the VIA8366 chipset) is making a loud noise.

Is it possible to replace this fan? What kind of fan is this?

thanks in advance for any help.

More than likely it's easy to remove and replace. They probably have two plastic pins you can pull out, gently and then put on the new heatsink after cleaning the chip off. You can find chipset fans at Newegg.com very easy too. I had 3 Abit boards that had a fan on the chipset go bad and I got replacements for $10 each. Not bad really. The kits also came with thermal paste and a couple of heatsinks and thermal tape to stick them on. I put the heatsinks on the South bridge ( don't know if it needed it, but what the hey ) and on my Audigy 2 card.:t

P.S. The kits I got were solid copper heatsinks and the fan heatsink was copper too, much better than the cheapo stamped metal one they came with.:D

agree those fans are very cheap around $10 give or take, depending where you buy them

just unplug remove, and replace with the new one
