Yeah. Let's face it, with his lifestyle he was destined to end up a dribbling vegetable in a home somewhere. Perhaps this way was better.

George Best dribbles. :)

On that note - the dribbling thing in homes is a side effect of a very bad medication which goes by the Monica - Serenace / Haliperidol.
If U know someone on this medication for what ever reason - challenge the reasoning behind its use and the dosages administered.
Dosage is a critical factor.
Trust me on this one - l have watched what it does to people.

Just can't find a way to sympathize with ppl who commit suicide. At least he meant it and did a proper job of it, unlike these attention-whores who give it a half-hearted effort by popping pills or something.

Thompson was a gonzo journalist - and probably one of the best American writers of the 20th century IMO. He may not have been a writer people agreed with (conservatives in this instance), but he could write quite well. Sad day.

I read a couple of his books years ago. He was a rogue and a sot but it was more for style then anything he really stood for. His books are definitely not for the masses as they are far too uneducated in America to really get the gist of what he had to say. No doubt the conservatives will make their jokes and wish him good riddence, but the truth is that if Rush Limbaugh had half the wit Hunter Thompson had he would have retired from his life of backbiting decades ago because Rush is only in it for the money and Thompson was in it for the laughs and creative style.

His life was a role model and his writing made me laugh, I kept a copy of 'The Great Shark Hunt' in my car for a couple of years, back in the late 70s, for the long waits, you could open it anywhere and find it interesting and funny, even after reading it a few times, I'd have loved to go to the Kentucy Derby wiith him, there's still plenty stuff I haven't read, I followed his accounts of US elections, up to the last one, he could capture the true characters and spirit of America.

His life was a role model . . .
You're joking, right? This guy was a drug and alcohol addict who took his own life.

Yes boys and girls, look no further than Hunter Thompson for someone to emulate.

I certainly wouldn't call him a role model either. Now you want a real role model take a look at Dick Chenny's accomplishments. Now there's a guy who can show us all how to get over. What a man, he can run a company, country and war all without missing a state dinner and from the comfort of his couch.
