I have an older model Pentium computer that I lease, I installed windows 98 over OEM windows 95 I have 4.2 gig. on my hard drive. Today while looking for another program I stumbled upon a file in the Windows\system dir. ~GLH0010.TMP @ 168 meg. dtd. 7/7/99 when viewing this file using quick view I get the following info. DYNAMIC LINK LIBRARY 16 bit for windows 3.x TECHNICAL FILE INFORMATION..Description = WSE Library= Owl 250 As mentioned I use Win 98 O.S. The only associated file with the same date and time appears in the windows dir. also a .tmp file but only 123K My question is can I remove this large file safely to retreive some disk space.
Thanks
Nathan

Something you might try... move the file to another directory and then restart your computer. If everything runs fine than you can probably go ahead and delete the file. If not, boot off of a floppy disk and move the file back to where it was.

Thanks for you interest and reply, I have since my initial query zip'd (compressed) both of the files in question, the 168 meg. reduced down to a paltry 370 K. And I plan to send this as a back up on one of my 2 gig.
dito tapes, then as you suggested transfer the file to another dir. or if the system will let me rename the file. I say this because since up grading the retail Win98 O.S. to a partial 2nd. edition, weird things keep hapening such as the fact due to no fault of mine I no longer have the use of my start button context menu with my mouse or keyboard. I had to purchase a shareware program from Mad Dog Software called Pain Killer that actually superseeds the context menu with one of its own. So as you can see my computer seems to have a mind of its own. I sent Mr. Gates a rather expressive e-mail about the problem and to my surprise I was contacted by the director of tech. service for the O.S. However to my knowledge they have not come up with a fix yet. I will advise my status after I monkey with the options I have outlined. Thanks again.

Do you have TweakUI installed? If so, go to "my computer" and put a check in all drive letters. This should bring back your context menu.

Hi! Guys and thanks for all of the help you offered. Well I took the plunge, I comressed the 168meg. file down to less than 400k, renamed the orig. file extention from .tmp to .tmc booted the system and everything seemed to work fine. I then copied the compressed file to my back up tape (Ditto's simple copy command) for storage and removed the file perminatly using BC Wipe, shut down the system for 5 min. rebooted and so far 15 hrs. running time I have had no problem at all. Once again thanks for the help and advise. xflight (Cliff)

I have seen your situation somewhere before, not sure though. That file was most likely created as a recovery file to unistall win98 or as a temp. file for installing from. It should have been deleted after the install was successful.
