Missing VMM32.vxd file?

Running CPU with pentium III 450. Unable to boot to anything but "Safe Mode". Receiving error message "missing VMM32.vxd file". Running window 98. Can anyone help? Thanks for all replies.

well, mine's in C:\windows\system, look there and see if it's there.

I get this error message upon booting up my system. Weird thing is, the file is in it's correct location C:/Windows/system/vmm32.vxd
I have absolutely no idea what this file does but I have found out that my system will not recognize it and prompts me that it is missing. Any ideas?

just for the heck of it, try replacing it with the one i sent you. Also before that, compare files, same size?

Perhaprs your was corrupted somehow...

If replacing with Mike P.'s doesn't work, try here from Nathan's.

Or, if you have TweakUI installed and can run it from Safe Mode, go there and hit Repair Tab, Repair System Files.

Or, you can try StartMenu/Run, type in SFC and scan for altered files.

If none of that works, reinstall Win98, it will replace corrupt files.

also try and check you autoexec.bat file. There might be a path statement holding you up. if not try putting a path statement in there like that will point it to c:\windows\system.

cause what it is doing (What it sounds like) Is that it isn't finding it in you c:\windows\system.
