RHINOS GRAB SOME RAYS

Two rhinoceroses at a Dutch zoo are to get their own sunbeds to keep them healthy during the winter.

Jennifer and Petra will get 20 minutes a go with their custom-built four-metre long sunbed.

Zookeepers say the animals' skins suffer during the cold and grey winter months.

But the sunbeds are not about vanity.

With no sunlight - and the water too cold to wallow in a good old mud pie - their skin becomes flakey and susceptible to disease.

The ultraviolet light from the sunbeds boosts blood circulation and stops their skin falling off.

"Their skin was beginning to look a bit flaky and not uniformly grey anymore," said biologist Wybren Landman of Emmen zoo.

"They did not have this problem in the summer, so we decided to substitute the sun and ordered a custom built sunbed."

We all came from the same nice hot continent and now live in environments unsuitable for us unless we 'waste' huge ammounts of fuel and money on creating our own personal tropical islands inside our homes.

What everyone needs to do at one time in their life, is go into a police station and ask the guy on the front desk how long the Statute of Limitation is for a murder.

When they tell you, do a bit of counting on your fingers, mutter something like 'only 3 months to go then', and walk out of the station.
