I have a couple of 10 drive SCSI cases, that I would like to install drives into and use as a array. Cabling is not a problem as I won't be using hot swap.

Question though, what do I do for a power supply? I don't have a motherboard or anything installed, just drives. Is there a adapter/resistor for the standard AT/ATX power supplys that trick them into thinking a motherboard is installed? There is no power supply currently installed, looks like a standard PC type cutout in the rear of the unit???

I have tried the various web search engines without a answer.

Ideas? Thanks David

ATX power supply won't do, since you won't put any load on the 3.3V rail. The PSU isn't going to like this.

Dig out an old, strong AT supply and off you go.

Peter, one thing that I thought was that the AT power supply also had to have a motherboard power draw hooked up? Or is my memory goofed up?

Yes, but the big differences are: AT power supplies aren't software controlled, they have a mechanical primary side breaker switch; also, they don't have a 3.3V rail that would require loading, just 5, 12, -5 and -12 (the negative ones allowed to not be loaded).

That's exactly what you need for a storage box - just 5 and 12V.
