how do you get a cd-r to write on the cd more than once? like say if you copy something that is only 100mb in size and then later on you wont to fill up the rest later. how and what program would work with a pacific digital cd-rw? I'm still kinda new at this cd-r stuff so any help would be very much appreciated.

Basically you need to have a software that is capable of writing data to a CD incrementally. I use WinOnCD and find it very easy to use, and quite reliable.
Further you must make the CD "multisession" as opposed to "closed" (only closed CD's can be played in a regular music CD-player).
The overall message is: get a good recording software and make sure that you do not "close" the CD while burning the first time (when writing again you must import the previous session).

Another program that is "good" for multisession cdr's is Adaptec's DirectCD. When you insert a blank cdr the program will "pop up" and ask if you want to make the cd writeable through windows explorer. So you can write easily, when you eject the disk you can close it or keep it open for more writing. Hope this helps.
